Tēnā koutou to all Parents and Caregivers

For Maori Language Week, our children got to weave the fish of Maui from flax. Firstly, they studied the story of Maui and then they discovered how North Island got its name " Te Ika a Maui, meaning the fish of Maui". Do ask them what all they learnt about 'Aotearoa" and the joy they had when they sang the waiata while weaving. Enjoy a short clip and few photos. Ngā mihi.

Welcome back to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2,

I hope that you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. We have a very busy term ahead with lots of learning, assessments, fun and exciting things to look forward to this term.  The mid term School Reports will be sent home this term.

The value for the Term is Honesty. Honesty is always and only telling the truth even if you have made a mistake, you need to own up and tell the truth. This is a very important value.

It is important that the children come to school on time and get ready for the day at 8.30am. The hand bell rings at 8.45am and school starts at 8.50am.

The topic for this Term is:
1. Jobs and Occupations.

We be learning about all the various and important jobs and occupations that people do in our community and how their roles are very important.

We also have an upcoming trip later on during the term.

For Health:
Harold from the Life Education Caravan will be visiting us.

The new buildings are under construction and we are enjoying seeing all the progress.

Homework Each Week
1. Homework sheets are given out on a Monday and it is important for children to do some of the homework each night. It is due on Friday.

2. Readers are given out to take home each day. Children are expected to be reading 15 minutes each night.

3. Each student gets 10 spelling words to learn and write into their spelling notebooks on Monday and it is important they learn their spelling words each day.  Please check that the words are learnt and spelling buddy tests are on a Friday.
A good strategy to learn new spelling words is:
LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE the word.

4. Students need to be doing Mathletics tasks assigned to them, practice and learn their basic facts each night.
